Professional Sports In Brooklyn

Professional sports in Brooklyn may not immediately come to mind when thinking of New York, but the borough is full of them! Brooklyn can even lose the Dodgers and have an impressive list. Here are some notable teams.

Brooklyn Nets

Formerly the New Jersey Nets, the Brooklyn Nets have competed in the Eastern Conference of the NBA as the Brooklyn Nets since 2012. They are currently the only NBA playoff team in New York City, clinching the seventh seed and finishing the 2020-2021 season with a 35-37 record. LETS GO NETS!

New York Liberty

So maybe you are not into the NBA, but Brooklyn has women’s basketball too! The New York Liberty was founded in 1997 and plays in the Eastern Conference of the WNBA. They recently moved to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, where the Nets also play. However, they have not yet played there because of Covid-19. Additionally, the Liberty drafted Sabrina Ionescu for the first overall pick of the 2020 WNBA draft. She is the only NCAA division one player to score 2,000 points, 1,000 assists, and 1,000 rebounds in a career. Now is the time to hop on the bandwagon!

Brooklyn Cyclones

Minor league baseball is always fun. Brooklyn has got it too! The Brooklyn Cyclones are affiliated with the New York Mets and play at MCU park in Coney Island. The Cyclones play in the New York-Penn League and are the most recent champions, defeating the Lowell Spinners 2-1 in the finals.
